About Fiona

Fiona Bevan, RGN, PGDipRCN, MSc, PGDipCBT, PGCert, BABCP

Hi, I'm Fiona, a qualified Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, accredited with the BABCP.  I am also a trained and certified Play Therapist, allowing me to provide specialized care to children.  My expertise also extends to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) which adds further dimensions to my therapeutic approach.

My career journey began as a General Nurse, but I soon pursued additional training to become a Registered Children's Nurse. I was fortunate enough to work in diverse areas, such as paediatric burns and the Regional Centre for Children with Cancer, as well as the Action for Children’s Sexual Abuse Service.  This was where my interest in the psychological care of children began to flourish.

Throughout my extensive career in the NHS, I have dedicated over 16 years to specializing in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

In my role as a Senior Staff Nurse, I have worked with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), conducting assessments and facilitating groups for parents and children. I have also worked as a Community Nurse Therapist, providing support to young people up to the age of 18 with various concerns including anxiety, low mood, OCD, body dysmorphic disorder, and low self-esteem. Over the years, I have continued to train in specific therapies, to further enhance the psychological support I can provide to children and young people.

In my therapeutic practice, I find it incredibly valuable to incorporate creative methods that allow children and young individuals to freely express their emotions within a secure, safe and nurturing environment. I believe in fostering a collaborative space, where I work closely with each individual and their families to assist them in reaching their therapy goals, tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs of each child I see. I prioritize building a strong relationship with my clients to ensure that they feel supported and understood throughout their therapeutic journey.

I specialize in working with children who have experienced developmental trauma during their early years and I am highly adept at supporting children and young people on the Autism spectrum who are grappling with emotional well-being challenges.

In addition to being a therapist, I am also certified in supervising psychological therapies, which allows me to assist other professionals in reflecting on their work. This collaboration is crucial in ensuring that we can deliver the highest quality psychological care for young individuals.
